SYNTHESIS — Collezione di opere scelte

Synthesis nasce da un gesto di responsabilità verso il mio stesso lavoro.

Dopo oltre trent’anni di ricerca, sentivo la necessità di fermarmi e guardare indietro non per fare un bilancio, ma per riconoscere una continuità profonda che attraversa tempi, linguaggi, tecniche e nuove espressioni. Mettere insieme queste immagini non è stato un atto curatoriale, ma un atto di consapevolezza.

Le opere raccolte in questo book non appartengono a un’unica serie né a un periodo definito. Sono immagini realizzate tra il 1990 e il 2010, nate in contesti differenti, spesso lontani tra loro, ma legate da una stessa tensione interna: quella di interrogare la materia dell’immagine come luogo di pensiero, di memoria e di presenza. In Synthesis non ho cercato una narrazione lineare, né un’evoluzione stilistica. Ho cercato un mio mondo visivo.

Questo book è, volutamente, un oggetto fuori dagli schemi convenzionali. Non è un catalogo, non è un’antologia, non è un portfolio. È una collezione dentro la collezione: una selezione di immagini che amo in modo particolare e che, nel contesto del libro, diventano opere originali autonome. Ogni pagina è pensata come un’opera da collezionare, non come una riproduzione al servizio di un discorso più ampio.

La scelta della stampa Fine Art Giclée su carta Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308, nel formato 30×30 cm, risponde a questa esigenza di autonomia e di dignità dell’immagine. Ogni foglio è uno spazio concluso, un campo visivo autosufficiente, in cui l’immagine illustra sempre un mio modo di vedere sempre qualcosa di significativo. Il book contiene 32 opere, ma non funziona come una sequenza narrativa: può essere attraversato, aperto, interrotto, ripreso. Come accade con le vere collezioni, l’ordine non è mai definitivo.

Synthesis è un’opera unica, e questa unicità non è solo un dato produttivo, ma una scelta concettuale. Riunire immagini nate in tempi diversi in un unico corpo significa sottrarle alla logica della serie e restituirle a una dimensione più essenziale: quella dell’immagine come presenza irripetibile. In questo senso, il book diventa una forma di autoritratto non descrittivo, costruito per stratificazione, per affioramenti successivi.

Anche il confezionamento risponde a questa idea di durata e di rispetto per l’opera. Tutti i materiali utilizzati sono acid free, pensati per la conservazione nel tempo, perché Synthesis non è un oggetto effimero né un prodotto editoriale, ma un dispositivo di memoria. Un luogo in cui il mio lavoro, disperso nel tempo, trova una temporanea ma necessaria unità.

In Synthesis non ho voluto dire tutto. Ho voluto, piuttosto, tenere insieme immagini, pensieri, intuizioni, silenzi. È un libro che non chiude una ricerca, ma la rende visibile come durata.

SYNTHESIS — Selected Works Collection

Synthesis originates from a gesture of responsibility toward my own work.

After more than thirty years of research, I felt the need to pause and look back—not to take stock, but to recognize a deep continuity running through time, languages, techniques, and evolving forms of expression. Bringing these images together was not a curatorial act, but an act of awareness.

The works gathered in this book do not belong to a single series or a clearly defined period. They are images created between 1990 and 2010, conceived in different contexts, often distant from one another, yet bound by the same inner tension: to question the substance of the image as a place of thought, memory, and presence. In Synthesis, I did not seek a linear narrative nor a stylistic evolution. I sought my own visual world.

This book is deliberately conceived as an object outside conventional frameworks. It is not a catalogue, not an anthology, not a portfolio. It is a collection within a collection: a selection of images I hold in particular regard and which, within the context of the book, become autonomous original works. Each page is conceived as a work to be collected, not as a reproduction serving a broader discourse.

The choice of Fine Art Giclée printing on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper, in the 30 × 30 cm format, responds to this need for autonomy and dignity of the image. Each sheet is a self-contained space, an autonomous visual field in which the image conveys my way of seeing, a meaningful fragment of experience. The book contains 32 works, yet it does not function as a narrative sequence: it may be traversed, opened, interrupted, and resumed. As with true collections, order is never definitive.

Synthesis is a unique work, and this uniqueness is not merely a matter of production, but a conceptual choice. Bringing together images created at different times into a single body means removing them from the logic of the series and restoring them to a more essential dimension: that of the image as an irreducible presence. In this sense, the book becomes a form of non-descriptive self-portrait, constructed through stratification and successive emergences.

The physical construction of the book also reflects this idea of duration and respect for the work. All materials used are acid free, designed for long-term conservation, because Synthesis is neither an ephemeral object nor a conventional editorial product, but a device of memory—a place in which my work, dispersed over time, finds a temporary yet necessary unity.

In Synthesis, I did not seek to say everything. Rather, I sought to hold together images, thoughts, intuitions, and silences. It is a book that does not close a research process, but renders its duration visible.
