VARIAZIONI

In this research, I chose to intervene on a single subject, allowing repetition itself to become the language of the project. Each image is born as a variation, a slight drift that transforms the way we perceive what, in appearance, remains unchanged. In creating Variazioni, I wanted nothing to be truly identical: the configurations of the same immobile subject are always different. It is the gaze that generates the shift, the difference, the possibility.

The work thus becomes a field of mutations, a place where the matter of reality and the matter of the print overlap. Scratches, veils, and dense marks emerging from the surface are not mere interferences, but elements that actively participate in the construction of the image. They are traces that point to the physicality of analog photography while simultaneously opening toward a more abstract dimension, as if the subject were a presence surfacing from an uncertain territory.

My vision does not seek objectivity; rather, it moves toward that threshold where a natural element can become a sign, as in Man Ray’s rayographs. Surfaces themselves—with their tensions and fractures—also take part in the narration: a materiality that recalls the stratifications of Tàpies, where form is never only figure, but memory, erosion, time.

In this sense, Variazioni becomes a meditative exercise: a moment in which the repeated object acquires new resonances with each variation, as if every image were a question posed to reality and, at the same time, to my own way of looking at it. The series unfolds through minimal vibrations, through slight dissonances that render each image autonomous while remaining part of the same wave.

In the works I present, the description of the subject is not what matters, but its capacity to transform through the creative act. Within variation, the secret character of things takes shape: their instability, their mutability, their being traversed by continuous metamorphosis. Each image is a different apparition of a thought that does not confirm, but reveals—each time—a possible transformation.

In questa ricerca ho scelto di intervenire su un unico soggetto, lasciando che la ripetizione diventasse il linguaggio stesso del progetto. Ogni immagine nasce come una variazione, una piccola deriva che trasforma il modo di percepire ciò che, in apparenza, resta immutabile. Nel realizzare Varazioni ho voluto che nulla risultasse davvero identico: le configurazioni dello stesso soggetto immobile sono sempre diverse. È lo sguardo a generare lo scarto, la differenza, la possibilità.

L’opera diventa così un campo di mutazioni, un luogo in cui la materia del reale e la materia della stampa si sovrappongono. I graffi, le velature, i segni densi che emergono dalla superficie non sono semplici interferenze, ma elementi che partecipano alla costruzione dell’immagine. Sono tracce che rimandano alla fisicità della fotografia analogica e allo stesso tempo aprono verso una dimensione più astratta, come se il soggetto fosse una presenza che affiora da un territorio incerto.

La mia visione non cerca l’oggettività: si muove piuttosto verso quel confine in cui un elemento naturale può diventare segno, come accade nei rayogrammi di Man Ray. Anche le superfici, con le loro tensioni e le loro fratture, partecipano alla narrazione: una materia che richiama le stratificazioni di Tàpies, dove la forma non è mai solo figura, ma memoria, erosione, tempo.

In questo senso, Variazioni ldiventa un esercizio meditativo: un momento in cui l’oggetto ripetuto si carica di nuove risonanze a ogni variazione, come se ogni immagine fosse una domanda rivolta alla realtà e, insieme, al mio stesso modo di guardarla. La serie procede così per vibrazioni minime, per piccole dissonanze che rendono ogni immagine autonoma e al tempo stesso parte di una stessa onda.

Nelle opere che propongo non ha importanza la descrizione del soggetto, ma la sua capacità di trasformarsi attraverso l’atto creativo. Nella variazione prende forma il carattere segreto delle cose: il loro essere instabili, mutevoli, attraversate da una continua metamorfosi. Ogni immagine è un’apparizione diversa di un pensiero che non conferma, ma rivela — ogni volta — una sua possibile trasformazione.
