SEA IN SUSPENSION

The Mediterranean I photograph cannot be possessed: it eludes representation and opens onto infinity, where sky, sea, and light dissolve into a silent suspension.
There is a moment in which everything seems held in abeyance—the breath of the wind, the movement of the water, even thought itself—as if the world chose to pause in order to reveal its most secret structure.
The sea then becomes a vibrating surface, suspended between presence and absence, between memory and future.
It gathers an invisible continuity, a dimension that precedes form and time, a place where reality bends toward perception and becomes a poetic gesture.

Within this suspension, I recognise the very nature of photography: not to capture, but to hold; not to imprison, but to allow space for appearance. It is an act of listening, a way of perceiving what escapes the visible, what exists beyond the boundary of form. Light itself becomes the protagonist, modulating time and space in a silent dance, revealing details that only an attentive eye can grasp.

Photographing the Mediterranean becomes an act of absolute trust in the world: a gesture that welcomes its birth, listens to its suspension, and rediscovers my own origin. Each image is an invitation to remain suspended, to confront the fragility and power of the present, to recognise the memory of the past vibrating beneath the surface and the echo of a future yet to be imagined.

And as the sea appears and disappears, I understand that photography is a silent dialogue between the visible and the invisible, between what we can hold and what escapes us. It is a practice of presence and attention, a way of inhabiting the world without dominating it, of welcoming its hidden rhythm and allowing oneself to be traversed by its essence.

Il Mediterraneo che fotografo non si lascia possedere: sfugge alla rappresentazione e si apre all’infinito, dove cielo, mare e luce si dissolvono in una sospensione silenziosa.
Esiste un attimo in cui tutto sembra trattenuto — il respiro del vento, il movimento dell’acqua, persino il pensiero — come se il mondo decidesse di fermarsi per mostrarsi nella sua struttura più segreta.
Il mare diventa allora una superficie vibrante, sospesa tra presenza e assenza, tra memoria e futuro.
Raccoglie una continuità invisibile, una dimensione antecedente alla forma e al tempo, un luogo dove la realtà si piega alla percezione e si fa gesto poetico.

In questa sospensione riconosco la natura stessa della fotografia: non catturare, ma trattenere; non imprigionare, ma lasciare spazio all’apparire. È un atto di ascolto, un modo per percepire ciò che sfugge al visibile, ciò che esiste oltre il confine della forma. La luce stessa diventa protagonista, modulando il tempo e lo spazio in una danza silenziosa, rivelando dettagli che solo l’occhio attento sa cogliere.

Fotografare il Mediterraneo diventa un atto di fiducia assoluta nel mondo: un gesto che accoglie la sua nascita, ascolta la sua sospensione e ritrova la mia stessa origine. Ogni immagine è un invito a restare sospesi, a confrontarsi con la fragilità e la potenza del presente, a riconoscere la memoria del passato che vibra sotto la superficie e l’eco di un futuro ancora da immaginare.

E mentre il mare appare e scompare, comprendo che la fotografia è un dialogo silenzioso tra il visibile e l’invisibile, tra ciò che possiamo trattenere e ciò che ci sfugge. È una pratica di presenza e attenzione, un modo per abitare il mondo senza dominarlo, per accogliere il suo ritmo nascosto e lasciarsi attraversare dalla sua essenza.
